Generating Specialized AM Curriculum
Analyzed training needs and developed advanced curriculum for the Department of Defense in partnership with America Makes.
The Challenge:
Additive Manufacturing usage has expanded across the Department of Defense, while manufacturing engineering education has not developed at the same pace. Following the awarding of a Department of Defense STEM and Advanced Manufacturing Education and Outreach grant, TLG was asked by America Makes to analyze training needs to develop and deliver a Metal Additive Manufacturing Application Expert Course.
The primary objective for the ACADEMI Expansion Initiative was to develop and deliver new educational content for the ACADEMI specifically focused on additive manufacturing needs for DoD acquisition, requirements and sustainment programs.
The Outcome:
For this project, TLG conducted an extensive Training Needs Analysis (“TNA”) of the DoD additive manufacturing ecosystem, developed recommendations to standardize the DoD’s AM learning pathways, and created a new ACADEMI course focused on metal additive manufacturing applications.
the program is offered through America Makes via bootcamp-style classes, is comprised of hands-on learning and lab work, and is instructed by world-class AM experts in the America Makes membership network.
The program content was shaped by input from over 100 companies and more than 30 subject matter experts from across industry and academia. To date, TLG has developed over 10 courses and trained 400+ professionals as a result of the ACADEMI program.
